MLT SONGWRITING SEMINAR - 2022 CANCELLED

Experienced New Zealand songwriters share their knowledge of the music industry and the craft of songwriting. Presentations may include performances, practical songwriting ideas and explore issues such as copyright of new material, royalties, the recording industry and opportunities for getting new material heard.

The 2021 line-up included:

Award winning singer/songwriter Kaylee Bell who presented at the seminar for the first time. Her experience in NZ, Australia and in Nashville was worth hearing and she discussed the structure of country songs, melody and hooks and the importance of co-writing.

Jenny Mitchell, an award winning songwriter/storyteller based in Dunedin was also thrilled to be presenting at the seminar for the first time. Her unique writing style paints vivid pictures of landscapes, experiences and people, through the vessel of simple folk/country melodies. Jenny shared her best songwriting tips on how to craft story-centric songs.

APRA AMCOS’ Head of NZ Operations Ant Healey presented a relaxed discussion about music rights, copyright, royalties and the business end of songwriting.
