For musicians ready to step up, showcase their talent and become part of New Zealand’s country music story, Tussock Country is the place to be. Held in Gore from 22–31 May 2026, the ten-day festival transforms the town into a vibrant creative hub packed with competitions, workshops, jams and genuine industry connection.

A Launchpad for Performers, Songwriters and Buskers

Tussock Country hosts three major competitions that shine a spotlight on emerging and established talent, opening doors and helping launch careers.

MLT NZ Gold Guitar Awards
The most prestigious annual country music competition in New Zealand – and the centrepiece of the festival. Hundreds of performers across Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Classic categories compete for the coveted Gold Guitar trophies, with many artists using the Awards as the foundation of their early career.
Entries open 5 February and close 10 April 2026.
